For
this editorial photo challenge, we were asked to choose one of the seven deadly
sins, the one we identify with the most.
For me, there was no indecision. I knew there was no other sin for me than the
sin of Sloth, especially as portrayed by physical laziness, but for all work in
general.
Now,
if you were to ask anyone that knows me well, they would tell you I am not lazy
at all, or I am the least lazy person they know. It is true I really do not like physical
labor. But, at the heart of my sloth is
the fact that I like my time to be my own time, to do with as I please. So, if there is a job to be done, I
immediately get to work on it and work hard to complete the job as quickly as I
can, but, always with competence, responsibility, and integrity. After all, I am only working to have free time
for myself to spend as I wish.
I
would rather lie in a field of wildflowers than to mow the lawn or to mop the
floor. I am so lazy that I prefer to pay
someone to do these things! In fact, as
a lover of nature, I have spent many hours lying in mountain meadows with the
smell of the grasses and wildflowers drifting over me on warm breezes, the hum
of insects surrounding me, the call of wild birds in the distance--a circling
hawk, a regal eagle—and, sometimes, a visit from the occasional deer, maybe a mother
with twin fawns.
So,
ultimately, I chose to portray this lazy mountain sloth in my editorial photo,
with the hope that everyone that saw it could feel the warm sun on their faces,
smell the soft scents drift across them, and hear the symphony of little
creatures nearby.
For
this photo, I built the entire set to get just the perfect look and feel that I
wanted.
The
sin of Sloth is represented by the color of light blue, so my first task was to
find the perfect Virtual Diva garment in this color. I was in tremendous luck, because one of my
favorite Virtual Diva gowns, the Timeless Gown Couture, comes in the color of
Sky, just perfect for my styling. Then,
I chose components in light blue to carry the Sloth theme throughout the entire
photo.
Now,
you might think that a lovely gown would be out of place in a mountain meadow
full of wildflowers, but I wanted to portray an elegant, fairy-tale look, a
princess spending a lazy day with the little creatures of the wild. Surrounding me, and on my little fawn
companion, the White Tail Deer Fawn from Jinx, are Persefona’s lovely blue Nose
Butterfly 8. Sitting perkily on the huge
bow of the Timeless Gown Couture Sky as it watches over me as I sleep is Lode’s
Head Accessory Magic single bird.
To
complete the princess look, I used the Mineral Butterfly necklace, Heavenly,
from Neomenia, and the Sinra earrings and bracelets in earth blue from Mandala.
To
impart a dreamlike quality to the scene, I wore three Dandelion Puffs and Seeds
emitters from Cole’s Corner and used eye makeup and face tattoo from Zibska,
and the lovely hair fanning out around my head as I lie asleep is the Akane
Black hair from Argrace.
The
wonderful sleeping pose I used is from Hatter the Mad, the Peaceful Slumber
Pose.
I
love rocks of any kind, but especially rocks such as geodes, and so, in keeping
with the light blue color of Sloth, as well as the outdoor and nature theme of
the photo, I included three, blue-hued Geode Roack-1 #620 from Anatnom.
I
hope I have transported you into a magical moment as I sleep lazily among the
blue daisies on a warm afternoon in my lovely Virtual Diva Timeless Gown
Couture Sky.
